Tension + Origami is Gorgeous, but not a Tensegrity

Behn Samareh's crane named Ascension is beautiful, built from aluminum triangulated beams, some wire and a fabric skin. You can barely see the tendons in the photos supplied by the Crimson Society, so I drew them on these photos. This is a wonderful, ultra triangulated, light, and inspiring structure. The problems that the team solved, including wind testing, are formidable. But I am not inclined to call this a tensegrity, particularly since the cables are anchored to the ground, like a suspension bridge.
