Here's what Freida had to say about her tutorial: Let’s talk about basic fusing. I have found out several things over the 30 years that I have been using fusible web. I have had some ups and downs but over all I love the process and the products that I use. I am a faculty member of the Chicago School of Fusing - dean of technology, I help people with their computers, printers, sewing machines, irons, if it is a machine I help them. I really think I could have been a mechanical engineer, well except for the math part.

Here's what Freida had to say about her tutorial: I think it is always a good idea to review information. I have been thinking about putting up directions to make a fused binding for awhile now and this seems like as good a time as any.

Most of my fused art quilts have this kind of binding. It is easy to do and really fast and it allows you to use those great decorative rotary blades in your rotary cutter to create one edge of the binding. It also allows you to use scraps of fused fabric if you want.

Here's what Freida had to say about her tutorial: I thought it would be good to share some of the tips that I have found to be helpful about machine quilting here on the blog. It seems like there is a real surge in interest from quilters to be better with their machine quilting. I think people are realizing how long it takes to hand quilt and how much it cost to have someone quilt it for them. My classes in MQ are always full and everyone tells me how much better they feel after taking the class. So this is for you guys who live to far away or just can’t make it to a class. Here we go.

This tutorial is yours to get inspired with. Please use it to create your own creative album and all I ask is that you tell others where you got this to give me credit for my efforts.

My thanks to Meeri who first showed me what a coffee filter album is.

Before starting, you may just want to read this on your computer rather than print it. Throughout the tutorial I used a lot of colour illustrations from my own album and that will take a fair bit of ink to print.

To make these albums, you don’t need to been overly artistic or have a big set of skills, but what you do need is the desire to open up your creative mind and let your muse help you. A lot of time we get caught up in thinking we can’t make something like another person or do it as well or any number of thoughts. Remember, everyone starts at the beginning as well and just did what we all have to do to improve our abilities. Practice, experiment, and repeat many times.

Enjoy the process of making your album and try not to get too hung up on details. Let go of the rules you think exist about what is supposed to match with what, IE: does this lace look right, what about these pictures or colours. Forget that, just relax and play. That’s what kids do, don’t take yourself too seriously. The only thing to decide on before you start is, do you want this album to have a theme. If so you will have to collect your papers etc. based on that theme.

Both of my Grandparents had them at one time or another. I still love them and I've been trying to come up with a way to represent the aluminum tree in a postcard. It all came to me last week when Kim gave me some scraps of silver silk from her holiday dress. I thought that others might want to create an aluminum tree memory so here's a little tutorial.

Designing With Electric Quilt Free Tutorial and Free Quilting Designs E-Patterns From Geta Grama of Romanian Quilt Studio

I just LOVE the different quilting designs you can create using a computerized sewing machine and would LOVE to try one someday. So, I was happy to see that Geta Grama of Romanian Quilt Studio had a wonderful tutorial on her Geta's Quilting Studio blog showing you how to design with Electric Quilt software and had some free e-pattern quilting designs for you as well. Now I just need to get a computerized sewing machine.

Even if you don't have EQ, you can still use some of the principles shown here for drawing your own design on paper.

These are "pdf" patterns and come on several pages, you have to print them and tape the pages together. If you want the patterns in the size mentioned below, print them in the original size (set Scale Preferences to "NONE").

This does not cover all the aspects of free motion, I just wanted to describe a few things that work wonderfully for me and make my quilting easier and faster. I wrote this tutorial with the beginner quilters in mind, too, so sorry if you already know and use these things. I will be glad if all of you find here something useful!

In my country quilting is unknown for most people that is why I had to learn all by myself. Can you believe that the hardest thing I had to understand was stitching in the ditch? I had no one to tell me “Don’t do this, it is wrong” so I do some things in my own manner. They make my quilting easier and I use them all the time.

Have you always wanted to make a quilt, but weren't quite sure how to put it all together or how to add the stippling? If you were, then you'll be happy to know that Nanette Merrill has a wonderful tutorial on her Freda's Hive blog showing you how to machine quilt.

Here's what Nanette had to say about her tutorial: Tutorial - prepping a quilt for machine quilting and suggestions for stipple or puzzle quilting a small patchwork quilt with a regular sewing machine

Anyone can learn to machine quilt. Much of machine quilting success is in prep of the quilt before going to the sewing machine. My method to prep the quilt involves using quilt spray that is non-gumming to the machine needle. I only quilt smaller baby, crib, or lap sized quilts with my regular machine because I feel this is all I can handle with good success. I know others quilt full-sized quilts on a regular machine but I limit myself to this for best results.
