Mothering Sunday Make - The Garden Tidy Tote Tutorial and Bag and Baggage - The Oil Cloth Tutorial By Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog

I can never have enough totes and use them for just about everything - even gardening. So, I was happy to see that Ros Coffey had two tutorials on her RosMadeMe Blog blog showing you how to make a delightful garden tote and a really useful oil cloth tote. Two terrific ideas.

Mothering Sunday Make - The Garden Tidy Tote Tutorial

Copyright © 2012 - All Rights Reserved - Written by Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  I know that this may be freaking out my readers in the Americas but here in the UK, Mothering Sunday is next week, the third Sunday in Lent so I thought it might be nice to make something that does not confine your mum to the kitchen. My mother had very green thumbs and loved to be out in the garden and when I moved to my house it was my mum who cleared the borders and collected copious bags of snails to boot!

So I thought a great gift would be a gardening tidy tote to carry round all those bits and pieces that you need to be with you when you are wrestling with mother nature.

Bag and Baggage - The Oil Cloth Tutorial

Copyright © 2012 - All Rights Reserved - Written by Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  This week we are going to make a boot bag or shopping tote from oil cloth, it uses many of the techniques we used last week in the garden tote. This bag will be great for all those April showers next month, for carrying your boot in a chic bag to Festivals, for holding the kids' sopping wet swimming costumes and for feeling as though you are saving the planet at the supermarket. So let's get this on the table (no pun intended) oil cloth hates you, it is personal and it will fight you every step of the way but we are going to tame it and win!

Ros's Bio:I live by the sea, in Essex, in Leigh-on-sea. I have been making things since I was a child, earliest memories were embroidering squares of binca matting, making felt egg cups and ripping back my knitting when my sister had picked up a dropped stitch... yep, it really did have to be all my own work! I am a dreadful hoarder, with stashes of wool and fabric hidden around my house, together with the projects that I have not yet finished. I am currently making cushions, quilted, appliqued, stencilled... actually just anything that I will enjoy crafting.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial: The muted prettiness of 'Aster Manor' by 3 Sisters combined simply with linen, pearl buttons and ric-rac make up this dreamy little pillow. Finished size: approximately 12" x 20"

Cookies and Milk Snack Mat Tutorial By Amy of nanaCompany

I can hear my mother asking, "Who wants cookies and milk?" Me, me! Especially if it's served on an adorable snack mat like the one Amy has on her nanaCompany blog. I hope you enjoy Amy's tutorial.

Copyright © 2011 - All Rights Reserved - Amy of nanaCompany.

Here's what Amy had to say about her tutorial: Cookies and milk. Mmmm. We use these snack mats every night just before bed. And as I've said... cuter than paper plates, reusable, washable, and handmade with love. Let's do it!

Amy's Bio - Hi, my name is Amy. I live in a small house near the ocean in Los Angeles with my three children and my awesome husband. We are a lively family but we live very quietly ~ I can honestly say that all five of us are homebodies, looking forward to returning home whenever we go out. But the fun thing I've discovered while looking through my camera these past years, is that there is a lot of beauty in our "everyday." And I'm looking forward to sharing with you my life as I create and explore new ways to find that beauty.

Completely self-taught in everything, I am a "see it- do it" kind of girl. And I love trying new things. Maybe someday I'll have a real style, but for now I love vintage and modern, girly and clean, and everything in between.

Love to Cook - Rumer's Cookery Book Tutorial By Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog

Are you looking for the perfect gift to make your favorite cook, your Mum, your daughters or granddaughters who LOVE to cook?  If you are then you'll be pleased to know that Ros Coffey has a wonderful tutorial on her RosMadeMe Blog blog showing you how to make a bag to store all those handwritten family recipes.  What a wonderful idea for gifts this holiday season.  Thanks, Ros.

Love to Cook - Rumer's Cookery Book Tutorial

Copyright © 2012 - All Rights Reserved - Written by Ros Coffey of RosMadeMe Blog.

Here's what Ros had to say about her tutorial:  I have a friend called Rumer, she likes to cook, mind you she also likes to knit, sew and play on her DS, which is not a bad thing considering her mum runs our local yarn shop. When I saw her today, she said she wanted to make lemon drizzle cake and then we started talking about her granny's amazing chicken soup and I thought now is the time for her to start collecting her family recipes in her own cook book which is why we are going to make her very own book to gather up the recipes. I wonder if like me and my mum you have recipes books filled with hand written little scraps of paper with your beloved family recipes, if you do then this is the perfect project for you start on.

How To Block A Crocheted Doily Tutorial By Pamela Kellogg of Kitty and Me Designs

Have you ever wondered how to block a doily or cross-stitch design.  If you have and want to learn how to do this you'll be pleased to know that Pamela Kellogg has a tutorial on her Kitty & Me Designs blog showing you how.

How To Block A Crocheted Doily Tutorial

Copyright © 2010 - All Rights Reserved - Written by Pamela Kellogg of Kitty & Me Designs.

Here's what Pamela had to say about her tutorial:  Happy Sunday everyone! I've been busy, busy, busy! Yes, too busy and I'm winding down now but I am the way I am! My ADD motor is always going!

I made a big pot of soup, 2 batches of cookies and a loaf of wheat bread. I have all the laundry caught up and added 2 more of my mom's Victorian Tussy Mussy's for Mother's Day to our Etsy shop:

Aren't they pretty? Mom really has a knack for these!

Another thing I did today was to block a couple of crocheted doilies and I thought I would write a tutorial for anyone who doesn't know how to do this. Many crocheted pieces can be ironed into shape but there are some that just won't cooperate unless they are blocked.

Please respect Pamela's TERMS OF USE:  I like to share Craft and Embroidery Tutorials on how I do a variety of projects and techniques and helpful hints. I add to this list regularly. Please feel free to download the directions and if you try them, please let me know if you enjoyed the project!

Pamela's Bio:Designer, Textile Artist and Instructor. Although I love all forms of needlework and embroidery, my true passion is Crazy Quilting. I enjoy a quiet life in our little cottage by a lake in Northern Illinois. I frequent flea markets and antique shops looking for do-dads that I can sew on to my stitching projects. I offer some of my handmade items, along with my mom's and my sister's, in my Etsy shop. I enjoy baking and share many of my recipes here. And did I mention glitter?

How To Make A Pocketed Placemat Tutorial By Lisa Jordan of Lil Fish Studios

Wouldn't it be great if your placemats had pockets and were handmade with the help of your kids or grandkids. Think how special they would be. If you're wondering about this then check out the "How To Make A Pocketed Placemat" tutorial that Lisa Jordan has on her Lil Fish Studios blog. Have fun with the kids or grandkids.

Here's what Lisa had to say about her tutorial:  It has been a while since I've spent time crafting for myself. I decided to change that this week and do something with the canvas dropcloth I've been tripping over in my workshop. I love the almost linen-like look of the untreated canvas and decided to use it on my tabletop. A few cuts, a few stitches, and some collaboration with my little ones and I had myself some placemats.

The Sleepover Pillowcase Free Tutorial by Christie of A Lemon Squeezy Home

I just love really cute ideas and Christie of A Lemon Squeezy Home  has a cute tutorial showing you how to create a sleepover pillowcase.

Copyright © 2011 - All Rights Reserved - Christie of A Lemon Squeezy Home

Here's what Christie had to say about her tutorial: We visit family and friends often.  Sometimes we end up staying late and our kids start to get tired.

If we pack this “sleepover pillowcase” before we leave, the kids can have their favorite  toy, and a soft place to lay their head down.

It’s also a great item to bring in the car while traveling long distances close to bedtime.

Or sometimes Grandma and Grandpa have them over for a sleepover.  They can stuff their pj’s and favorite blankie into the pillow portion.  The button closure will help these things stay in!  Let them pack their favorite stuffed animal or some books in the zippered pocket.  With the handle at the top, they are ready to go equipped with everything they need in case they get a little homesick.

Please respect Christie's TERMS OF USE: Unless stated otherwise, you may use any of the items or tutorials I post for personal use. If you are wanting to sell items made from my tutorials, please ask me for permission!

If you make and post anything that I came up with, please post a link to my blog. If you sell any items on my website that was my idea, then you must post a link giving me credit (after asking permission to sell first).

Just give credit where it is due! Happy crafting!

Mineral Pool Placemats, Sugar Maple Placemats, Fat Quarter Placemats, and Merry Mats Placemats Free Tutorials By Vicki Welsh of Field Trips In Fiber

Ever wonder how to make placemats? If you have then you'll be happy to know that Vicki Welsh of Field Trips In Fiber has several tutorials on her blog showing you how to make placemats. I hope you enjoy Vicki's tutorials.

Copyright © 2009- All Rights Reserved - Written By Vicki Welsh of Field Trips In Fiber.

Here's what Vicki had to say about her Mineral Pool placemats tutorial: There are two things that I have been wanting to do: make some samples using my hand dyed fabrics and make more placemats. I have a million placemat ideas but I wanted to go back to these that I made during Craft Week and write up a tutorial. Since I wasn't able to make soap yesterday (missing an ingredient) I decided that I needed to do the placemat tutorial and I selected the Mineral Pool palette because these colors will look fantastic in my kitchen.

Here's what Vicki had to say about her Sugar Maple placemats tutorial: I was going to share these placemats and the bargello table runner with you today but the table runner isn't done yet. I'm working on the binding but I'm having a little issue with my right hand and hand sewing isn't fun. I'll get it done, though, and will have the grand reveal soon.

Meanwhile, I made a second project with the Sugar Maple to share. This was a relatively simple project but I really love the results.

Here's what Vicki had to say about her fat quarter placemats tutorial: I wanted to make some fast placemats using fat quarters. These fat quarters are sunprinted fabrics but they work with any sets of fat quarters.

Here's what Vicki had to say about her Merry Mats placemats tutorial: This placemat tutorial was designed specifically to be used with my Geranium hand dyed gradient fabric but the placemats can be made from any fabric you choose. These placemats finish at 17” x 13” but you can adjust the size to your own preference.

Making Placemats On The LongArm Free Tutorial By Vicki Welsh of Field Trips In Fiber

Ever wonder how to use a long arm to make placemats? If you have then you'll be happy to know that Vicki Welsh of Field Trips In Fiber has a wonderful tutorial on her blog showing you how to make placemats using a long arm. I hope you enjoy Vicki's tutorial.

Copyright © 2008- All Rights Reserved - Written By Vicki Welsh of Field Trips In Fiber.

Here's what Vicki had to say about her longarm placemats tutorial:  Today I finished the quilting for the bright QFAH quilt (the second QOV of 4). When I got the the end I realized that I had about 20 inches of extra backing and batting left. It seemed like a good opportunity to make some placements. All of mine are getting a bit ragged and I really need new ones. I also had enough of the backing fabric left to make matching napkins. I looked through stash and found a gray print batik that goes really well with the backing fabric. Here's how I made them:

I have LOTS of fabric left over! I also needed one to go with the Hour A Day QOV quilt. It only took about an hour to make all three.

A Burp Cloth Tutorial From Sylvia of Pieces From My Scrapbag Blog

Thanks so much to Sylvia of Pieces From My Scrapbag blog for allowing us to publish her whole tutorial on our blog.  If you want to know how to make a burp cloth here's how:

Just what a sewer and a quilter loves...possibilities! A selection of burp cloths. The finished size is 9.5"-10" wide, length 18 or 19". There are very few directions and no rules..*VBS* I make them from flannel, and it certainly doesn't have to be the HIGH end kind. I've been making these for about 6 years now, and find they make a nice baby shower gift. Or for the grandchild of a friend..*VBS* I usually make a dozen.

You need a fat quarter of soft flannel for each. I usually buy baby and kid flannel by the yard. You get 6 cloths from 1.5 yds. For the demo I used a left over half yard piece. Straighten your edges and then split the half yard on the fold line. You now have a piece that is about 20" wide by 18-19" long.

Fold right sides together and stitch around 3 sides if you are using a folded piece like this. If not, and you've mis-matched the two sides, which is neat for using up 9 & 10" left overs, then you would sew all 4 sides, leaving about a 3" opening somewhere so you can turn it right side out. Turn right side out and give it a shake.

Pick out the corners (you know what that means, right?) and then press the rectangle so it's smooth. Tuck in the little part where you've turned it. Top stitch around the 4 sides..LESS than the 1/4" seam or you won't catch the opening. No reason to close that by hand when the top stitch will do it for you. I make my stitching about 1/8" from the edge. You could use decorative stitching if you have that on your machine. Hearts or vines would look neat. Back to the ironing board, and fold in half across the 9" way.

Press really well so there is a crease. Then stitch from side to side across that 9". What that seam does is gives something that will rest well on your shoulder while you are burping baby. I've left a thread so you an see the stitching line across the blue ducks. It should enlarge if you need it to.

I do a batch of these at a time, it's easier to cut several rather than just one or two. I chain press them, and chain sew them, etc, etc, etc. OK..that's it for burp cloths!

Machine Quilting Free Tutorial By Nanette Merrill of Freda's Hive

Have you always wanted to make a quilt, but weren't quite sure how to put it all together or how to add the stippling?  If you were, then you'll be happy to know that Nanette Merrill has a wonderful tutorial on her Freda's Hive blog showing you how to machine quilt.

Copyright © 2008 - Written By Nanette Merrill of Freda's Hive.

Here's what Nanette had to say about her tutorial:  Tutorial - prepping a quilt for machine quilting and suggestions for stipple or puzzle quilting a small patchwork quilt with a regular sewing machine

Anyone can learn to machine quilt. Much of machine quilting success is in prep of the quilt before going to the sewing machine. My method to prep the quilt involves using quilt spray that is non-gumming to the machine needle. I only quilt smaller baby, crib, or lap sized quilts with my regular machine because I feel this is all I can handle with good success. I know others quilt full-sized quilts on a regular machine but I limit myself to this for best results.

Here's what Nanette had to say about her tutorial:   The Sew Mama Sew Blog is having a tutorial contest and although I wasn't going to enter, it seemed silly not to enter when I made a new project this weekend.  This tutorial is for making a quilted floor cloth or rug. What is different about making a floor cloth than a quilt? Well there are lots of similarities, obviously. But a floor cloth is smaller, stiffer (from 2 layers of batting) and to make sure people don't think it is a small quilt laying on the floor I bound it differently.

Cottage Quilt Block Free Tutorial By Nanette Merrill of Freda's Hive

My house is filled with pictures of houses so I was happy to see that Nanette Merrill had a wonderful tutorial on her Freda's Hive blog showing you how to make a cottage quilt blog.

Here's what Nanette had to say about her tutorial:   I've been wanting to make a quilt designed around houses for a while now, but I didn't want it to be applique houses or a row of homes made of lots of teeny tiny pieces. I also wanted the quilt to be simple in structure with the fabric being the focus of the houses. I love working with a basic 2 1/2" square. And with jelly rolls being 2 1/2" wide, it is a popular size for basing this quilt and a fabulous way to use up scraps or fat quarters that we ALL have.
