Flying Scarecrow Pillow Free E-Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

Who can resist a scarecrow - especially a flying one? Not me. Sounds like a perfect Fall decoration to me. So, I was happy to see that Kaaren Johnston had a wonderful e-pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make a flying scarecrow pillow. This is definitely going on my Fall decorating "to do" list.

Autumn Blessing Free Quilt Pattern By Kaaren Johnston of The Painted Quilt

Just when I think I couldn't possible add anything else to my Fall decorating "to do" list along comes another mini wall quilt that is just too charming to resist. Kaaren Johnston has yet another charming pattern on her The Painted Quilt blog showing you how to make an "Autumn Blessings" mini quilt. My husband may divorce me, but this is definitely going on my Fall "to do" list.

First Friday Freebie #13 - Autumn Blessings

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern: It sure would be nice to be posting this month’s First Friday Freebie on a cool, crisp Autumn day but that’s not going to happen until tomorrow. For the last four days, we’ve been experiencing record breaking temperatures for this time of year in the mid to high 90’s and along with the oppressive humidity, it’s been brutal.

This month’s FFF is an Autumn-inspired mini quilt called Autumn Blessings. It combines both pieced and stitched blocks with some wool appliquéd elements. I had the best time not only creating it but also when adding the embellishments. I could easily have gotten carried away and found that I really had to restrain myself. I hope you have fun making it your own.

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her pattern: After four days of rain and an unseasonal ‘nor-easter thrown in for good measure, we have our fingers crossed for blue skies and sunshine today. Although yesterday dawned bright and cool, we had to fire up our furnace and build a fire in the wood stove for the first time this season. We even had a few wet flurries of the white stuff. Yikes! I think that autumn has officially arrived!

To celebrate the season, this month’s First Friday Freebie was designed to showcase the fading days of summer and the start of autumn…my favorite season! Watermelon, sunflowers, crows, wasps, pumpkins, birdhouses, flowers and of course the alphabet are included in this sampler.

Here's what Pamela had to say about her tutorial: Well, my new Kitchenaid has kept me quite busy! I've made 3 batches of cookies this afternoon. I also made some fudge and another candy. I'll have photos soon and I'll share my fudge recipe. It's so easy!

I was driving to the Post Office yesterday, and decided to stop at the farm market on the way back for some squash. Those little tiny pumpkins always catch my eye! I already had a few but decided to get some more and suddenly, I had this idea to glitter them and add some dried flowers to the top. So I bought 8 pumpkins and drove over to mom's house! (Ya'll know I love my glitter!)

Here's what Kaaren had to say about her tutorial: At the outset, let me say that all the wool that I used came from scraps that I have saved over the years. Whenever I work with wool, I save all the bits and pieces and store them by color in separate zip lock bags. When I’m working on a project that requires small pieces of wool in a specific color, I just reach into the plastic bin that holds all my baggies of scrap wool and pull out the appropriate bag.

If for whatever reason you don’t have any wool or you might be allergic to wool (perish the thought), you can also make this pincushion in the exact same way that I am about to show you using fabric. The instructions are identical.

Here's what Alisa had to say about her tutorial: Living in Southern California it is a challenge for me to get into the spirit of traditional fall decor. Though it is raining today, typically this time of year is beautiful- like hang out at the beach beautiful! So when it comes to October/Halloween decor I like to create things that actually feel more summery and will go with the airy cottage feel of our home. I decided that this year I would create pretty little pumpkins in pastel colors full of detail and design.

No Sew Molded Felt Ornament Tutorial From Lisa Bunting Thoms of Q.D. Patooties

Here's the instructions and what Lisa had to say about her No Sew Molded Felt Ornament Tutorial: This is a very simple and fun to make no sew molded felt ornament that I was experimenting with last year. The process I used to create the ornament was simple and I ended up teaching the project to my friends in the soft cloth doll group I belong to called the Potomac Poppets. So here's the materials and instructions you'll need to create one of your own:

Materials

----------
Clay Cookie Mold (tons available on E-bay)
Metal Cookie Sheet
Liquid Starch (local grocery store - My Target and Walmart don't carry this product)
Wool Felt (at least 20% wool and I purchased mine at Joann's Fabrics)
Prismacolor Markers or Pencils
Glue (any will do just so it dries clear)
Ribbon (thin enough to be threaded through a large-eyed needle)
Clear Glitter (if you want)
Spray Adhesive
Scissors
Oven Set at 275 degrees

Place your cookie mold on top of a metal cookie sheet . Cut your wool felt to overlap your mold at least by 1 inch(see Figure 1). Then, soak your wool felt in liquid starch (see Figure 2) . I tried a 50/50 mix of liquid starch and water on the first one and it didn't work nearly as well. Then, squeeze out as much of the starch as you can and place your felt on top of the mold (see Figure 3). Work the felt into the mold until you can see the design (see Figure 4). Place in the oven that has already been preheated to 275 degrees. When I taught this at our doll club, we used a toaster oven and it took much longer to dry out but it usually only takes about 15 - 20 minutes. To save time, you could do several at once depending on the size of your mold and of your cookie sheet. Once it is completely dry, the felt will just pop out of the mold (see Figure 5). When you turn it over, you will be able to see the design of the cookie mold pressed into the felt (see Figure 6). Here's the fun part which is decorating your ornament. Previously, I tried both watercolor pencils that you have to wet as well as Prismacolor Markers but found they made quite a mess so I wouldn't recommend them as they made the ornament too wet and ran too much. For the ornaments you see above, I used Prismacolor Pencils which have a more subtle look (see Figure 7). Anyway, fill in the detail of your ornament using whatever media you prefer (pencils or markers). When your finished, lay your ornament on top of another piece of wool felt and trace around it as this will be your backing. Glue the front piece of your ornament to the back coming as close to the ridge of the mold as possible. Once it is dry, cut around it with a pair of sharp scissors or get fancy and use your Pinking Sheers if you have them. Then, if you'd like, spray your ornament very lightly with the Spray Adhesive and sprinkle with some clear glitter (see Figure 8). Thread your needle with the ribbon or gold cording and go through the top of the ornament so you can hang it on your tree (see Figure 9). And now you have a molded felt ornament!

You can also use these to decorate your packages for the holidays or on a wreath or something. Just a little project I thought of in my "spare time." I'd love to see what you come up with though so if you make some, send me a pic! I'll have some pics of the ones I make this year in my Blog for all to see (when I find more of that "spare time").

Teeny Tiny Shrinky Dink "Leaves" Necklace Free Tutorial by Ashley Hacksaw of Lil Blue Boo

Everything is cuter when it is miniature. This “leaves” necklace is made from a bracelet “end clasp” and teeny tiny shrinky dink shapes. Each tiny leaf has been carefully cut out, hand painted, and then shrunken to its small size. Here they are on my little child manny:

Punkin Pie and Autumn's In My Heart Free E-Patterns From Renee Mullins of Plum Purdy Designs

I just LOVE artists and painters as I'm so envious of their enormous talent. I wish I could paint like they do, but I wasn't blessed with such talent.

My designs are intended, and permitted, for Personal use only…..

All of my designs can be used for personal use in anyway that you would like to use them, such as for painting, stitchery, or appliqué. They can be used to produce a painting or other craft to sell for “pin” money for craft shows, eBay, personal web-sites, craft malls, etc.

They cannot , however, be mass produced, used to produce products for wholesale purposes, catalog sales, or used in any type of business or commercial use. This includes using any part of my design to reproduce an item for commercial re-sale, such as “wood kits”, “graphics”, “scrapbook kits” , or any other reproduced item from the use of my designs.

Reproduction of any part of my designs - YES… please feel free to be creative with my designs and reduce or enlarge any of the line drawings to fit your personal use, such as to fit on different sized surfaces.

They however, cannot be reproduced or copied to pass along to friends, groups, paint classes etc….

By no means, can they be reproduced or republished to be sold as pattern packets on eBay, internet sites, Stores/Shops, or conventions.

Scanning of line drawings, instructions, photographs - Any of my line drawings, patterns, or photographs cannot be scanned or photographed and used for PSP Tutorials, graphic use, advertising, logos, business cards, web-sites, etc.

TEACHING MY DESIGNS - I am so grateful for all the wonderful teachers that teach my designs! Thank you so much! For those of you considering teaching my designs that do not know what my requirements are…. They are listed below.

I would prefer that classes purchase the pattern packet or book (I do give a wholesale discounts for the class purchase), but if that is not possible, (1) line drawing per student is permitted to be copied and distributed. Please make sure that I am given credit as the designer on the line drawing by printing my name with the line drawing.
Other than the line drawing, no other part of my design can be reproduced, such as the photograph and instructions. If the photograph, instructions, and line drawing are all reproduced, this is actually “reproducing” my pattern packet or book design, and this is not permitted.
Pattern Packets and designs from any of my books are not to be reproduced to sell for wholesale or retail.
